PETERS HOUSE 

When US2UGANDA4life moved away from funding a children’s center we created a new opportunity to care for the children. We NOW have almost 50 orphans in our care and when school finishes for the holidays they have nowhere to go. Resty’s House was perfect for the older girls but we needed a second home.

Peter Mukongo, in addition to being the director of Suubi Lyabanna is a wonderful entrepreneur and incredibly resourceful. A few years ago, Peter purchased a plot of land with two houses on it, in 2018 he donated one of the houses to Suubi Lyabanna and together, with the help of some generous friends here in the United States we have taken that simple structure and converted it into a dormitory and living space for almost 20 boys. During the school term it is home to our young men who are completing apprenticeships in town. We bought bicycles for the boys and they cycle to and from Peters house every day.

Peter has a larger house on the property that he hopes one day will be a guest house to accommodate our groups but in the interim he is using it as a holiday home for the balance of our orphaned children. During the holidays we employee some of the staff from the schools to cook and care for the children, staff who otherwise would have nowhere else to go and no way to make money. A win win for everyone.

In addition to the houses, Peters plot of land is home to small farming projects including a small pig farm, small banana plantation, avocado trees and when the price of feed is right a chicken farm. We now affectionately refer to his compound as “The Ranch” When the children are staying at the Ranch they are expected to do chores and learn about each of the projects. Great experience for later life!
